SOFT CONTRASTS

In artist and designer Birgitte Due Madsen’s studio, the curtains take on a clear, sculptural presence. The cream-coloured, heavyweight curtains hang like soft sculptures around the room, bringing a sense of calm into the middle of creative chaos. The browned, ceiling-mounted track rails create a beautiful contrast against the light curtains. Some rails have been bent into organic, flowing shapes, giving the curtains an almost fluid expression. Across the large wall, a floor-to-ceiling curtain solution runs from end to end, concealing shelves filled with Birgitte’s own works. The curtain acts as both a practical screen and a design detail that adds depth and warmth to the atelier. Together, the rails and curtains form a cohesive whole that almost feels like a work of art in its own right.
